Feed The Hungry Global Updates

US Tornado Relief
Multiple semi trailers filled with needed supplies like food and water have been sent to tornado victims in Alabama and Joplin, Missouri. Feed The Hungry moved quickly to bring help to churches serving as relief centres for the displaced. At Ignite Church in Joplin, Pastor Heath Mooneyham reports that approximately 3,000 people come to the church for meals and hot showers every day.

Haiti - Helping Stop Cholera
The cholera outbreak in Haiti last year was tragic. In a nation where cholera was not seen in a hundred years, from October to December 2010 more than 150,000 Haitians were infected and 3,500 died. Unfortunately, the World Health Organization predicted a second wave of cholera this year and the death toll has already begun rising again. As many as 400,000 Haitians could be affected by this new outbreak.

Because of your support, FTH has been able to install a 10,000 gallon per day water purification centre at Mercy & Sharing’s “Williamson” campus - it has been a great success. In addition to providing clean drinking water, the program educates local communities on proper hygiene and sanitation to combat and prevent the spread of cholera.

Humanitarian Crisis in Abidjan
Disputes over presidential elections last year, resulted in the loss of more than 3,000 lives as an already divided country took up arms in defence of one candidate over another. Bullets, shelling, and looting forced thousands to barricade themselves in their homes or run helter skelter across the capital looking for refuge. Four million people were trapped in Abidjan, unable to flee the city at earlier this year.

The political crisis has since been resolved, however month by month the humanitarian crisis continues to grow. Today, more than 300,000 people are still displaced in the West African nation of Ivory Coast.

Feed The Hungry has been providing aid to the innocents, supplying rice, beans, vegetables, & palm oil for churches acting as cities of refuge, feeding displaced children and families.

Japan Disaster Relief

While working in Japan last week, FTH Germany Director Jeanne-Pierre Rummens and Pastor Makato of Tokyo Bible Church assessed the opportunity and feasibility of establishing an orphanage in Sendai where so many people are homeless, hurting, and without loved ones. The prospective site for the orphanage is a hotel that was forced to close as a result of the economic impact of the Great Eastern Earthquake disaster which claimed over 25,000 lives.

Please pray that FTH will move forward with God’s wisdom and clarity in this matter as we work together to continue ministering to the people of Japan.

Feeding Every Child Every Day

U.N. reports show that 10.9 million children under five die in developing countries each year. Malnutrition and hunger-related diseases cause 60 percent of the deaths. Because of your faithful support, Feed The Hungry is taking away hunger for children worldwide. Through a network of local pastors and churches in more than 20 nations, over 30,000 children are receiving a hot and nutritious meal daily.

But so much more must be done. Our feeding centres are growing at a rapid rate. Demand is outpacing supply and children -- hungry children have to stand on the sidelines and watch as others receive the meal they desperately need to survive.

Nicaragua Mission Trip
FTH Australian Director Ben Evans in Nicaragua June 2011 - Feed The Hungry AustraliaA few days ago Ben from the Australian office  returned from his adventurous mission trip to the Nicaragua traveling by bus, river boat and single-propeller plane across the nation. Pictured here he ism visiting a rubbish tip for a city in the second poorest nation in the western hemisphere.

Locals sift through the rubbish tip everyday looking for recyclable material to resell and earn a few cents. It is some of these very same children from this dump that are receiving hot and nutritious meals through the EveryChild EveryDay program in Nicaragua.

These are the lives that your generous donations are helping. Thank you for helping us to feed the hungry in Jesus name.
